Lifestyle Spotlight: Krista C.

Every month we include a spotlight for one of our VIP clients, and this month we are introducing one of our new features: Lifestyle Spotlight! 

The Lifestyle Spotlight highlights a member of our Lifestyle Program community who is achieving their goals and exhibits the spirit of Okon Fitness in being motivating, encouraging, and uplifting to the community. The other part of how we choose the Lifestyle Spotlight is when someone shows a commitment to their health, and following a healthy lifestyle.

This is Krista's Story

Tell us a bit about yourself and your journey.

I am 34 years old and live in the small town of Arlington MN. I work in accounting for a large health care organization in Minnesota. My work life is very sedentary. I started really taking my health and well being seriously when someone made a comment that they thought I was pregnant.

Which I wasn't. 

It wasn't the happiest time of my life and I let myself get to a low place. That comment lit a fire in me and I started researching the steps I needed to take to get on the right path. I had no idea what I was doing. It was a major struggle at first because I wasn't educated on nutrition and I didn't push hard at the gym.

I had the mentality that I could eat healthy during the week and binge eat on the weekends and still see results. I was wrong. I started following inspirational fitness professionals on Instagram and learning new things about nutrition. I kept hearing about macros and decided that is what I needed to keep me on track with nutrition.

I joined Okon Fitness at the end of November 2018. The day I joined I was given all the tools I needed to be successful. The website has a lot of educational materials that were incredibly helpful.

I was assigned a coach, Cora, and she has made me so much more educated with macros and how to adjust them and how to modify workouts among may other things. I fell in love with the fitness app where all of my workouts are scheduled and I can track my macros, measurements and weight.

I have lost 10 lbs. and have majorly changed my body composition since I started with Okon Fitness and I am in the best shape of my life.

Why did you join Okon Fitness?

My boyfriend told me I should follow Angie on Instagram. He is from Arlington where Angie had grown up and he knew of her through his friends. He knew my struggles and knew Angie is very knowledgeable and successful in the fitness industry. I followed her for a while and have always loved her energy and how straight forward she is.

I wanted to work with her for a while but I was trying another program, a pyramid program that I won't name, and I wanted to see what it would do for me. After my coach told me that macros were a joke and I had to buy an expensive supplement each month to keep working with her I said forget it.

Okon Fitness was having a special on the lifestyle program for black Friday and I thought to myself why not? I could see the real changes people were making without needing to buy an overpriced supplement each month. I knew I wouldn't have any regrets because of how educated, honest and real the Okon Fitness family is.

What gets you to the gym on those really tough to get going days?

I see everyone else getting their workouts done and their post workout selfies through the chat in the app and it motivates me to push myself to get my workout in. I also love my Sunday rest day. I will think to myself "if I don't get my workout in today then I have to workout Sunday." That is usually enough to keep me going.

What songs frequent your workout playlist?

If I do listen to music I listen to the Okon Fitness playlist. I honestly don't really listen to music very much when I workout though. I like to use all my concentration on my form to make sure am getting the most out of my workout. Music can sometimes distract me.

What is your favorite part about your program?

I love the nutrition and macros. I have learned so much about macros and that my food doesn't have to be boring. I don't have to eat cod and asparagus to be successful. I love that I can eat foods I enjoy and still meet my goals.

What’s your favorite meal on the plan?

Protein waffles. I have one every night after my workout. It is a healthy and approved treat after a long day. It helps eliminate my cravings for sweets as well.

What would you tell someone who is debating whether to take that “leap” and make a Lifestyle change?

Do it, you won't regret it. You get so much out of this program. You get education, a coach, an app to track everything, workouts, a community of people with similar goals and interests, honesty, confidence. I could keep on going but most importantly you gain a family.

Joining Okon Fitness was the best decision I have made for myself.
