Who is Danielle?

I am a wife and working mom of two young boys.

What made you want to start your fitness journey?

I decided to start this journey because I was going to the gym but never found a routine, felt lost on what to do, and never noticed any change. I really wanted to start to feel good in my skin and better about myself and how I felt. I noticed over the years that I put myself last which started to reflect on how I looked and felt. I decided to start to focus on myself and to become overall healthier.

What inspires you most?

I am inspired most by being a good example for my boys. I want them to remember their mom being active with them.

What have been the biggest obstacles getting started?

The first obstacle that I had was feeling comfortable in the gym to try new things and not worry about what people were thinking around me. The next obstacle that I had was during dinner time to make sure that I felt included in what my husband and kids were eating. Over time I found ways to make similar food/meals so there was togetherness again.

Why did you choose to work with Okon Fitness?

I decided to work with Okon fitness because I knew Angie from High School which made me feel more comfortable. I knew that she would keep me accountable for my choices. I wanted to find a community of people to share the experience with including the good and bad. Overall, this has been the best decision I have made. I feel like I have more energy, feel stronger, better about myself, and more confident. 

Being a busy hard working woman, how have you managed all the things in your life?

There are times where it can be hard to fit everything in from my meals to my work out. I have found that having a schedule has made a big difference. Also having a husband who is supportive and will distract the boys for me during my work out helps.

Have you started any new hobbies?

I have found a new hobby with my husband because of this journey. My husband asked me to go mountain biking with him. In the past, there would have been no way that I would be able to do it. Now with feeling stronger and healthier, I am now able to enjoy this with him and see enjoying this with our kids in the future.

Do you have any mottos or sayings that you live by every day?

Any step big or small is one positive step in the right direction.

What is some advice you have for someone who is just getting started?

There will be good weeks and not so good weeks. The most important thing that I have learned that if I have a bad day its ok because tomorrow is a new day. I remind myself that no matter how small or big the progress is that if I am moving forward, I am making progress.
