Delisha's Story: Persistence + Hard Work Truly Equals Results

Every month, we highlight a client of ours that has been with us and we have watched them transform body and mind. This month, we have the pleasure of sharing Delisha's story with you.

Delisha explains herself as "a simple girl from Houston, TX! The youngest of 5, educator, artist, and dreamcatcher collector." She began with our VIP Transformation program back in the summer of 2017 and went through our program for several months. 

When Delisha applied to our program, she shared her heart about what she was looking for:

"By the end of our time together I want to be mentally and physically fit. I want to love myself on the outside... I want to have my best body before I'm 27"

The thing is, many of us have struggled over and over, without being able to accomplish what we set out to do. We always ask if applicants have tried other diets, for Delisha she shared she had, and how it worked out:

"I've done whole 30 unsuccessfully many times and just other random diets."

Whether it be some incredibly successful diets that have worked for people, or diets that work for a bit and then just seem to stop, it's something we see over and over. The thing is, we have found that a diet is something that is easy to fall off from, no matter how successful it may be. But a lifestyle? That's something that is going to stick. You learn how to be healthy, you feel healthier, and you live healthier because it is not something you follow for a limited time but you develop habits that affect your life.

As always, we make it a point to share with you insight about our VIP spotlight. This is Delisha's story:

What made you want to start your fitness journey?

I got tired of seeing others with the body and lifestyle I wish I had. I followed so many fitness pages and I’d look at them constantly. I’d tell myself “I’ll start tomorrow.” It wasn’t until I saw the final transformation of my friend from college, Micaela Hines! I knew that if she could start and finish, so could I! So thankful for her inspiration!

What inspires you most?

My mother inspired me the most! My mom passed away when I was 16 due to a brain aneurysm. She also suffered a stroke and had high blood pressure. Seeing her health fail constantly reminds and inspires me to do my best to maintain my health. She motivates me to be a better woman, friend, teacher, athletes, and person!

What have been the biggest obstacles getting started?

The biggest obstacle getting started was myself and my mindset. I had been my old weight for so long that I was almost afraid to be any other way. I constantly doubted myself and just thought it was impossible to be better.

Why did you choose to work with Angie Marie as your coach?

I chose to work with Angie Marie because she was REAL and she was working on her body as well. She wasn’t selling a quick fix or a sugarcoated version of what needed to be done to be great. I absolutely love that she also transformed her body along with us so she was practicing everything she preached!

We hear you just GRADUATED with your second masters?? — How exciting! Do you feel this program helped you with your mental strength?

This program most definitely helped me with my mental strength. When I saw that I could put my mind to getting fit and actually come out on top- I could do the same in my career and as a graduate student. This program grew me as a woman- it increased my endurance, my confidence, and my overall drive to succeed.

Being a busy hard working woman, how have you managed all the things in your life?

Sometimes I am not sure how I managed all the things in my life but if I had to name it- I’d say my faith and staying organized. My faith in God has brought me through so much and I know nothing is impossible with Him!

I’ve always been told that if you don’t have a plan, you plan to fail. Staying organized and scheduling time to get everything done is very beneficial when managing multiple facets of life! From waking up at 4am to workout, working from 7am-5pm, and going to class from 5:30–8:30pm I’d say to anyone thinking it’ll be too much to juggle that IT IS POSSIBLE if you really want it!

Have those around you been supportive?

My family and friends have been very supportive. My coworkers don’t even tell me when we have treats in the workroom because they know what I’m trying to accomplish. My sweet boyfriend has been the most supportive! He is always there to check my meals and make sure I’m on track!

Give it your all and you will see results. Don’t be afraid to try something new and don’t be discouraged by people who are not on the same journey as you.

Good to know: I’m left handed and I love to sing

Favorite healthy meal: Salmon and veggies

Favorite cheat: Fried chicken and French fries

Favorite lift: Leg press!! All day everyday!

Favorite physical trait on you: My butt!! I’ve always had a butt but seeing it lifted and tight is amazing!
